Frequently Asked QuestionsThe Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program is a worldwide system of services and activities provided by civilians that supports soldiers and their families. Imagine yourself in the center of explosive concerts, leading kayaking adventure trips, opening a theme restaurant or renovating a multi-million dollar hotel! How does being an MWR civilian employee differ from being a soldier? As a nonappropriated fund (NAF) civilian, you will be in a non-military position carrying no enlistment obligation and not financed through the federal budget process. What would I do as a Management Trainee? Management Trainees relocate to a regional training site for 12 months of on-the-job training (OJT) at an Army installation. Training is conducted under the supervision of a trainer-mentor, followed by another 12-months of on-the-job work experience in a specialty program area, for a total of 24 months. Your college-acquired skills will mesh with with Army functional areas ranging from business and financial management to personnel administration. What happens when I complete the OJT? After 12 months of OJT the MWR Referral Program provides assistance to place you at a location where a NF-03/04 managerial vacancy in your specialty exists.
